Capture of Rowr - Chapter 3 - Escape

Prologue: The dark entity was captured by our heroes Plasma Stream, Neo Kitsune, Shifting Facade, and HemilyTiger in the last chaper. She was imprisoned on a tanker anchored near Talos Island, in a magic circle of holding situated on a magical ley line. Little did our heroes realize that they were being watched, and a group of Circle of Thorns mages soon arrived at the tanker...

The entity was fuming at having let her guard down and getting captured so easily. Fortunately, she always had a group of loyal minions shadowing her every move, being careful to keep out of sight and cloaked by spells. Even now as she waited for them to come free her, her thoughts were focused on coming up with some way to get vengeance on the tigress's faithful friends.

Three mages climbed up the ladder on the side of the tanker the entity was being held on, and cautiously approached the dark entity. One began making gestures, singing out magical incantations as he cast a spell to test the strength of the prison. A dash of green light shot from his hand as he pointed a finger towards her, only to have it spark and fizzle as it hit some inpenetrable barrier. His face sunk as he stared into the glowing red eyes of his master.

"Fool!" The entity hissed, rising to her feet. "Do you not remember your studies? A ley line crosses this exact spot. Find some way to move this ship." One of the subordinate mages stepped forward and looked to his superior. "Perhaps we can cut the anchors that moor this vessel?" He said. "The current here is strong and perhaps the tanker can drift off the line, weakening the spell."

The lead mage looked thoughtful for a moment, then nodded. He turned to bow to the entity, "We shall return momentarily, my master." The entity nodded her head slightly, crossing her arms with impatience. "Make it swift, for I have much to do."

With that, the 3 mages turned and climbed back down to their speedboat, circling around to the front where two massive chains dipped into the water. Manuvering the boat close to the first chain, one mage leaned out, muttered a few words, and traced a line around one of the links. Where he touched the metal began to glow, going from a faint orange into a fiery yellow and white glow. A straining sound was heard as the link began to stretch and weaken, then with a somber clink it snapped, causing the bottom part of the chain to splash into the water. They inched the boat over to the next chain, repeating the same process, and then the tanker was free.

Being this far out in the water with no close landmarks to guide by, they could only guess how fast the tanker was drifting. Minutes ticked by as the mages climbed back aboard to continue testing the barrier every few minutes. The sun was setting now off in the distance, casting a pale yellow glow over the deck of the ship. The entity sat cross-legged as her minions continued casting spells of negation, but without much success. However, progress was being made, because with each attempt the barrier seemed to buckle in more and more, the sparks of light dancing across the surface were becoming less and less pronounced.

After the sun had fully set, and stars were twinkling overhead, a breakthrough was made. With a loud crack and a flash of eerie green light, the last spell a mage had cast to dispell the barrier succeeded. Finally smiling, the entity stood and unconsciously stretched like a feline would after being cooped up in the same place for many hours. "Come," she motioned to her underlings, starting to walk towards their speedboat. "We have much to do. Let us return to Oranbega and prepare a little surprise for our good friends..."
